Cinnamon French Toast

One of my guilty pleasures is having this cinnamon french toast for breakfast. Bread, soaked in a mixture of beaten eggs with milk and cinnamon, has to be one of our most indulgent, breakfast dishes.

French toast is made best with thick slices of bread. Thin slices when soaked can fall apart or become mushy.

Try them with different fruit toppings for variety.

French Toast
Ingredients

  • 5 slices bread
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup thick milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • butter

Method

Cut the bread slices diagonally into triangles and keep aside.

In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon and salt.

Heat 2 – 3 tbsp butter in a pan. Dip each bread slice in the egg mixture and then put into pan.

Cook till golden brown on one side, then flip it and cook till golden brown and the edges are slightly crispy.

Take out of pan and rest it on tissue paper to get rid of excess butter. Serve hot.

Notes

You can use oil instead of butter, but the best flavor comes with butter. You can also add 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract if you have it available.

French toast is made best with day old bread. You can also keep the bread in fridge for some time before making so that it will soak up the custard well.

Tastes best when had with maple syrup or powdered sugar sprinkled on top.
