Poori Masala

Poori masala is as the name suggests a side dish which is had with pooris. It is a good breakfast combination which is simple and easy to make.

One of my husband’s favorite breakfast dishes is poori with this masala. This dish takes about 20 minutes to make.

Poori Masala
Ingredients

  • 3 potatoes
  • 1 big onion / 2 medium onions
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp chopped ginger
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • curry leaves
  • 1 tsp chana dal (optional)
  • mustard seeds
  • salt
  • oil
  • 3/4 cup water
  • coriander leaves for garnish

Method

Cut the potatoes into 4 big pieces each and pressure cook for 4 -5 whistles. Peel the skin and mash the potatoes into chunky pieces.

Heat oil in pan and sputter mustard seeds. Add chana dal and saute for a minute or so.

Add the chopped onions, curry leaves, chopped green chillies and chopped ginger. Saute till the onions are soft.

Add the turmeric powder and salt and mix.

Add the potatoes and mix well. Then add 3/4 cup water and boil till semi solid consistency. Check salt and add if necessary.

Garnish with coriander leaves.
