One of the staple South Indian breakfast side dishes. This is very simple to make and goes great with Idly and Dosas.
I generally am a fan of coconut chutnies and this is one of the simplest and basic ones to make.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup grated coconut
- 1/4 cup roasted cashew nuts / peanuts
- 3 – 4 pearl onions
- 1 green chilly
- curry leaves
- small piece of tamarind
- mustard seeds
- 2 dried red chillies
- salt
- oil
- 3 – 4 sliced pearl onions for garnishing (optional)
Method
Grind the coconut, nuts, pearl onions, green chilly, tamarind and salt in the mixer to paste. Check the salt, add more if needed.
Heat oil in a pan. Sputter mustard seeds and then add sliced pearl onions, dried red chilles and curry leaves. Put this over the ground paste.
Serve with Idly / Dosa.
